The Nest Egg #6: These Florida kids saved $42k in 3 months

What 189 kids pulled off in one summer, plus a deal from our partners at ClearClub.

By the UNest team · 7 min read

Hi there,

Every year you have a gift to figure out, and the answer is rarely obvious. Meanwhile you are up at 2am grinding your teeth over the school year, the sports fees, and buying your kid new clothes. We have you covered. Our partners at ClearClub have a deal on guards for the teeth part, and our Rewards section has money back on brands like Gap and Old Navy for the clothes. For the rest of it, there is your child's gifting link, which gives friends and family an easy way to put money in your child's account!

Here is what we have for you this week:

What 189 kids in Florida pulled off in one summer, where the market stands heading into the last four months of the year, and a mom of two worth a follow.

This week's letter is featured by our partners at ClearClub, and they brought a great deal just for you.

Let's get into it! — Mitch, from The Nest Egg team

💡 FOR PARENTS

deposited between April and June

Okaloosa County, Florida · Teach Children to Save, run by Okaloosa Saves with Eglin Federal Credit Union and six other institutions

Nearly 200 kids in Florida pooled together over $42,000 in savings through a local campaign. Honestly, that is extremely impressive. What it shows is something parents here already know: when kids get a savings goal and a little encouragement, they run with it, and the habit tends to stick.

“Financial literacy is one of the most important life skills we can offer our children...”

— Trey Goodwin, Okaloosa County Board Chairman

📈 MARKET MOMENTUM

A strong August, and a friendly setup into year-end

Fall is shaping up to be a pretty good time to be a long-term investor, which is exactly what your kid is. The S&P 500 is up 12.8% year-to-date. Historically, when August closes positive after a strong first half like this one, the market has finished the year in the green 10 out of 11 times. No guarantees, of course, but that's the kind of context that makes it easier to just stay the course.

What this means: The best thing you can do right now? Keep those contributions going. Time in the market is the part you control.

Historical patterns are not forecasts and are not indicative of future performance. August 2025 figures (2.03% for the month, 10.79% year to date through August) are as reported by Gateway Investment Advisers in its August 2025 market recap and by Seeking Alpha on September 1, 2025.
