The basics

What a Trump Account is, in three parts.

  • Who’s eligible.

Accounts are for U.S. children. Some children may qualify for a starting deposit from the government.

Under IRS proposed rules, U.S.-citizen children born 2025–2028 with a Social Security number qualify for the seed.

  • The $1,000 seed.

Eligible children may get a one-time deposit from the government to start their account.

Under IRS proposed rules, the seed is a separate election on IRS Form 4547 or at trumpaccounts.gov. It isn’t automatic.

  • Adding to it.

Parents and family can add money over the years, up to a yearly limit.

Employers can add up to $2,500 a year. Contributions have been allowed since July 4, 2026. The yearly limit is $5,000 per child, from individuals and employers combined.

The 3 buckets

How a Trump Account fits with your other options.

Many families use more than one. Each does a different job.

Soon. Join the waitlist and we’ll email you the day they open.
Does it cost anything to join the waitlist?
No. The waitlist is free.
Is my child eligible for the $1,000 seed?
Under IRS proposed rules, U.S.-citizen children born 2025 through 2028 with a Social Security number qualify. You have to elect it; it isn’t automatic.
Should I wait, or open a custodial account now?
You don’t have to wait. A custodial account works today, and you can add a Trump Account later. Both can live in UNest.
Can grandparents add money?
Yes. Relatives can contribute, along with parents and employers, up to $5,000 per child per year in total. Grandparents can already give to a UNest custodial account with a gift link.
Are Trump Accounts taxed?
The money grows tax deferred, so no tax is due until it comes out. When it does, only the earnings on money you and other people put in may be taxed. Money from employers, government programs or charities may be taxed in full, earnings included. A penalty may also apply. UNest does not provide tax advice.
